On June 2nd, I had the opportunity to photograph Michael Franti and opening act, Lawrence, at the iconic Red Rocks amphitheater for 303 Magazine.
This was my first time seeing a performance at Red Rocks and man, did it live up to the hype. The venue is absolutely breath taking, figuratively and literally with the amphitheatre's altitude sitting at 6,450 feet.
Lawrence, a feel good soul pop band from New York, got the crowd moving with jams that are impossible to stand still to.
Siblings Clyde and Gracie Lawrence created the 8-piece band with musician friends from their past. With vocals, strings, keys and horns, the band seriously has it all and put on an amazing show that got everyones blood pumping.
Michael Franti and Spearhead gave truth to their tour title BIG BIG LOVE with an amazing and emotional performance.
The band consists of Michael Franti - Vocals / Guitar · Carl Young - Bass / Vocals · Manas Itiene - Drums / Vocals · J Bowman - Guitar · Mike Blankenship - Keyboard and Claudio Urdaneta - Guitar
It was an interactive show with fans up on stage and the band making their way through the amphitheater throughout the night.
They brought all the love with heartwarming respect and appreciation for Carl Young and an on stage marriage proposal with thousands of their Franti family as witness
An amazing night that left us all feeling a little more human.
